Angle I The Idea

Cubism never settled on one view of a face. It painted the front, the side, and the back on the same canvas, at the same time - and called that the more honest picture.

Independent film in London has always worked the same way. There isn't one scene here; there are dozens, each shooting on whatever it can get its hands on, each pointed in a different direction, all covering the same subject - the moving image - at once.

AI is just the newest tool in that pile. It sits next to the camera, the borrowed edit suite, and the favour called in from a friend who owes you one. We're not ranking it above or below anything else a filmmaker reaches for - we're interested in the finished shape: what a film looks like once it's passed through a dozen different tools and points of view and still holds together as one thing.

This is a festival for that shape - work that doesn't sit flat, made by people who didn't wait for one clean angle to become available before they started shooting.

Angle III The Rules

Terms of entry.

  1. 01

    Artificial intelligence must contribute meaningfully to the production - whether through generation, animation, editing, sound design, or the conceptual process behind the film. It is not required to dominate the finished work.

  2. 02

    Only independently produced work is eligible. Submissions financed or produced by a major studio will not be considered.

  3. 03

    Entries are limited to short and mid-length films, with a maximum runtime of 60 minutes.

  4. 04

    Films must be presented in English, or accompanied by English subtitles where the dialogue is not.

  5. 05

    All materials contained in the submission - footage, music, and any AI-generated elements alike - must be properly cleared for the filmmaker's use.

  6. 06

    Entrants must be the rightful authors of their work. Submissions found to be plagiarized or in violation of third-party rights will be disqualified.

  7. 07

    All entries must be submitted via FilmFreeway. Submission fees are non-refundable. Filmmakers may submit more than one work; each requires its own entry.

  8. 08

    The festival retains full discretion over programming decisions and award selections.

Angle IV The Night

One screen, one room.

A screening of the selected films, a Q&A with the directors who can join us, and time afterward to actually talk - filmmakers, audience, whoever's in the room. Part screening, part co-working evening: come to watch, stay to meet the people who made the work.
